COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A man and woman are accused breaking into at least 15 storage units.  62-year-old Gerald Simons and 47-year-old Sherry Ann Hillard are charged with burglary.

Lowndes County Investigators say Hillard was driving a vehicle that was stopped by deputies on Friday and some stolen items were found from a storage unit. That’s when other units in the area were checked and deputies found them broken into.

Today some victims of the burglaries started sifting through some of the items deputies have recovered, thus far. Several burglaries were reported on Thursday but it’s unclear when they started.

Deputies believe at least three storage businesses were hit. This is another reason law enforcement say they depend on the public’s help for solving crimes.

“We made an arrest within 24 hours, just because we got the information and we got our deputies out watching these units.”

Investigators say you should check on your storage units at least once a week.
