COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Lowndes County man goes on trial for shooting another man in the head almost two years ago to the day. 45-year-old Jerry Lee Darnell sat quietly today as Lowndes County sheriff’s investigators testified what they found when they responded to a shooting at William Roberts Terrace in May 2012.

Darnell is accused to shooting Bernard Harris as he sat in a car with a woman. Harris has since recovered and is expected to testify when the trial resumes Wednesday in Lowndes County Circuit Court.

Darnell faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of aggravated assault. He has a prior conviction for fleeing police and two burglary charges pending.
