COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — 50 thousand dollars in state grants could pay for the next round of improvements to the downtown park and soccer complex in Columbus. The county’s parks and rec Department will know by this summer whether they’ve been awarded the grants which will pay for a new playground and additional sidewalks and trails to better connect the kids’ area with other parts of the 70-acre park. Two miles of sidewalks and trails already run through the grounds. The playground was cut out of the original plans to get it within budget in the 18 months since the complex opened, Columbus and Lowndes County officials have been adding elements.
