MACON, Miss. (WCBI) — A landmark in one local town is celebrating a milestone. The City Hall in Macon turns 75 this year, and is still serving as the headquarters of city government.

The Williamsburg-style building was begun in 1938, and opened for business in 1939. The building was designed by Krase and Brasfield of Meridian, and its construction was funded in part through the Federal Public Works Administration, one of the Depression-Era agencies that put unemployed people to work on building projects across the country.

Although the exterior of the building hasn’t changed much since the late thirties, the interior has been renovated to keep up with the times. There have been efforts to get City Hall added to the National Register of Historic Places.
