COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Fourth of July means family reunions, as well.

When 65-year-old George Anderson was referred to Aurora Health, the staff was told he was homeless, with no family or friends.

But during conversations, Anderson began talking about going home, and mentioned the name of a sister. The staff tracked her to Knoxville, Tenn.

She responded Saturday to Aurora’s outreach.

Turns out, another sister happened to be in Columbus last weekend. That led to a call to Anderson’s son in Georgia. They had not communicated in 18 years — the son though his father was dead.

Wednesday, they reconnected, and the son took his father home.

“His son called him and they cried, and it was just a very overwhelming and touching time,” Penny Peralto with Aurora Health and Rehab said. “But it was very exciting, an awesome moment, and Aurora is so happy to have been a part of bringing this family back together.”

Anderson’s family had hired private detectives to try to find him, but to no avail.

The Aurora staff thinks Anderson came to Columbus for work, and then lost touch with his family before his health started to decline.
