JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi Supreme Court has rescheduled oral arguments in two firing discrimination cases from Lowndes County.

Oral arguments are now scheduled for April 14 in Jackson.

Lowndes County School Board attorney Jeff Smith had asked for the delay until after the Legislature adjourns, now scheduled for April 6. Smith serves in the Mississippi House.

Smith said state law allows legislators/lawyers to have cases continued until a legislative session concludes.

Lynn Wright is appealing his firing in 2010 by the board from his position as principal of New Hope High School principal. In a separate case, former longtime New Hope baseball coach Stacy Hester also was fired in 2009 and sued the school district.

The cases were consolidated on appeal.
