Jackson, Miss. (WCBI) – House and Senate negotiators reach an agreement to raise teacher pay. The plan calls for starting salary to increase to a little more than 34 thousand dollars. Pay would increase by 15 hundred dollars by July and a thousand more in July 2015. Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves says a school recognition program in the legislation will reward teachers at schools that show academic improvement each year beginning in fiscal year 2017. The stipends from the program could be worth as much as two thousand dollars. The full House and Senate take up the bill this week.
