STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- People of the Jewish faith are celebrating passover this week.

Passover celebrates the exodus of Jews out of Egypt and their freedom from slavery.

Those in Mississippi who celebrate passover say although the number of practicing Jews is low in the South, it helps bring them closer together and remember the importance of the holiday.

“The thing about living in the south, it almost makes you more Jewish because you have to strive to find your identity and it doesn’t matter if the synagogue is 20 minutes away..if you wanna keep up with religion, you’re gonna do it,” said Daniel Snyder, member of MSU Hillel.

Passover began at sundown Monday and will end next Tuesday.
