Video: Monroe Co. Death Linked to Drowning

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-After almost three months of searching, the body of a missing Monroe County man was found Wednesday afternoon. William Harold Wright’s family has some closure, but this is a tragic ending.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department has been busy since April looking for any clues in Harold Wright’s disappearance.Wright was well known in Monroe County. When he went missing the night of April 10th, his family and friends feared the worst.

“During the past three months we have spent everything that we could do; our deputies myself, we have worked diligently to try to find Mr. Wright. We have been looking everywhere,” says Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department received a tip Wednesday afternoon, which led them to Bartahatchie Rd. That is where they Wright’s vehicle submerged in the creek.

“Under this bridge we found Mr. Wright in the vehicle a missing person from our county,” says Sheriff Cantrell.

Sheriff Cantrell says finding Wright’s body was a relief for the family.

“It’s a bitter-sweet thing. They’re relieved they’re going to be able to finally give their family members a decent burial,” says Sheriff Cantrell.

“As one of my customers, he was a nice guy and he was always friendly when he would come in the store. I really hate to hear what happened to him and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” says Mario Alomari.

Coroner Alan Gurley says the cause of death was drowning. The manner of Wright’s death is still under investigation.
