MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Monroe County Farm Bureau (MCFB) hosted a Dairy Block Party to promote National Dairy Month. They have invited children and parents to come and partake in a little farming fun, and to learn about farming culture.

It’s National Dairy Month, and everyone has got their favorite dairy product.

The Monroe County Farm Bureau’s Farm Fun Day featured kiddie games and tasty ice cream treats. The bureau is hoping to educate children about dairy products and farming culture.

“Each month we try to promote our different commodities and try to inform the general public and the children about where their food comes from,” Sharon Odom with the MCFB said. “Without farmers, we are not going to have any food.

Specifically for National Dairy Month, the Farm Bureau even had a model cow for people to milk, and I couldn’t resist tapping into my inner farm.

Farm Bureau Administrative Assistance Marianne Butler says the old saying is true: Milk does a body good.

“Well, it actually gives you … the protein and … good vitamins, and stuff that gives them energy,” Butler said. “People exercise and stuff and drink protein shakes and stuff.”

For the children of Aberdeen, the best part of the Dairy Block Party was the ice cream. Odom hopes the children will appreciate where the tasty treats come from.

“That the children are learning about farming and how excited they get, they think chocolate milk came from a chocolate cow,” Odom said. “You know they don’t even realize and … it’s teaching them.”
