EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI) — Dozens of people came out to honor a fallen police officer in Webster County Wednesday morning. Officer Keith Crenshaw was killed while on duty last fall and now the Eupora community wants to make sure that he’s not forgotten.

“My father died a hero. This will let the community remember him and pay tribute to him,” says Colten Crenshaw, Officer Crenshaw’s son.

It was an emotional ceremony, as the Eupora community honored one of its own. A memorial was held for Crenshaw who was killed in the line of duty last October. Crenshaw was hit by a get-away car driven by bank robbery suspects. Family members say continuing on without Crenshaw is difficult.

“We have good days, bad days. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him. I miss him dearly and I’d give anything to have him back but he’s in a better place,” says Crenshaw.

A monument with Crenshaw’s picture will now forever stand in front of the Eupora Police Department. His family was also presented with a Purple Heart plaque. Law enforcement officers from Webster County and surrounding areas came to remember the man they knew as an officer and friend.

“You could always count on Keith to be there as a friend when you needed him. Of course he was an exceptional, excellent police officer over 10 plus years with the Eupora Police Department,” says Jimmy Forrester, with the Webster County Sheriff’s Department.

“Well he was likable, easy going but he knew what he was doing. He was a good policeman,” says Retired Eupora Policeman, Jimmy Farley.

Crenshaw is the only officer to be killed in the line of duty in Webster County. Two of the bank robbery suspects died as a result of the crash. The third man remains in jail.
