LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Mooreville man is being held on a $125,000 bond after authorities say he brutally attacked another man with a claw hammer.

Sunday, Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a house on County Road 1349. When they arrived, they discovered a 50-year-old man who had been attacked with a claw hammer, suffering severe head trauma.

55-year-old Michael Wayne Griechen was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with aggravated assault, and Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the crime was especially heinous.

“Several years ago there was an individual that used a claw hammer as a weapon and it ended up being charged with manslaughter,” Johnson said. “There was two individuals. It’s a very gruesome sight to see when this type injury is sustained anywhere, but especially to the head area, where a claw hammer is used, this one was no different.”

The victim will likely have to have surgery soon.

Johnson says he is not sure what sparked the attack.
