PITTSBORO, Miss. (WCBI) — An effort to call a wet-dry referendum in Pittsboro is moving along slowly.

City officials said Tuesday 13 official petitions have been filed supporting a vote on whether to allow alcohol sales. A total of 24 are required.

Several petitions have been picked up at City Hall, but not yet returned.

The movement began last fall under a new state law that allows county seats to decide alcohol issues regardless of how small they might be.

The Calhoun County seat has a population of about 200 people.
