STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) Mississippi State fans could hardly believe their eyes this afternoon. The Bulldog’s brought home the biggest win of the year at the College World Series and now a national championship is within reach.

Wrap this historic day in Maroon and White. The Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs are just two wins away from a national title. In the Bulldog nation, that is an accomplishment worth celebrating.
“I could not be more excited right now. I am so proud of the boys and how calm they’ve been and how good they’ve done,” said Mary Beth Crumby.
“It’s really exciting since it’s the first time in history that they’ve gone and me and my friend are going to possibly get to go and watch the game,” said Carson Nash.

They might’ve entered the series as under “dawgs,” but have remained in the winner’s bracket.

“I’ve been nervous the whole week. This week has been so long. I cannot believe that we finished it out and it was just so much fun to watch and were just so proud of them,” said Hunter Harrington.

“This is the first year in the schools history that they have made it to the finals and my husband and my son are overexcited and this is what they wanted to do for vacation this year. We knew, we had faith, we were ringing the cowbells. They pulled it out for us so we’re very excited about that,” said Lori Nash.
Star pitcher Jonathan Holder had family rooting for in Starkville as well. His cousin says Jonathan has been passionate about baseball for years.
“I use to watch him pitch in the backyard when we went down there a lot. He was young and we use to go watch him pitch,” said Drew Riley.
The Bulldogs have to win two more games before they can claim the title of National Champions.

Mississippi States first championship game will be this Monday.
