STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi State University Football Coach Dan Mullen won’t be hearing too many bells inside the Ole Miss stadium Saturday, so he took the chance to hear a few ring this morning all for a good cause.

Mullen and some members of the fourth-ranked Bulldogs kicked off the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign in the Starkville.

Volunteers will monitor the familiar drop-off points at Krogers, Wal mart and Vowels Market Place.

MSU football players participate every year.

“Come out here, ring the bell for Salvation Army,” Mullen said. “Just to help others out is so special. I know our players are going to coming out here later during December to do this as well, and we want to make sure we all find a way to give back.

The Kettle Campaign goes through Christmas Eve, and is one of the major fundraisers for the Army.

Last year donors dropped more than $40,000 in the fund.
