COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Homecoming at MUW got off to a great start on Thursday and continued on Saturday by honoring one of its own.

The celebration started off Saturday morning remembering a woman that made a difference at MUW over the years.

“We are celebrating the life of ruth hart, she was a dance teacher here from 1961 to 1980, she was loved by her students everywhere…everyone here loved her well and she had so much carisma that after all of these years we’re still meeting together to celebrate her life,” says MUW Faculty member Michelle Harmon.

Because of Mrs. Harts devotion to the university, a scholarship was made in the 1980’s that funds the education for one deserving MUW student.

“Right now the scholorship is producing about a 15 hundred dollar scholorship to a deserving MUW student so one of our goals today is to try to increase that amount so we can actually give more money,” says Alumnae Ann Severance .

Anyone that would like to give to the group can do so through the MUW foundation. Across campus, alumni of all ages marched down the aisles of the Rent Auditorium; singing class songs and representing their class year.
“For all these graduates this truly is a time to come home. They have life long friends and this may be the only time they get to see each other because their lives have taken these graduates throughout the country, throughout the world, and it’s a chance to come home and actually bond,” says Co-President of MUW Alumni Association Andy Thaggard.

Homecoming activities will continue with a concert on Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning in the Hogarth Dining Center.

MUW will conclude homecoming activities with a church service in the Carrier Chapel Sunday at 11am.
