COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – William Shakespeare is arguably the most famous playwright known to the literary world but is his work still relevant nearly 450 years later?

That’s the question Assistant Professor Nora Corrigan answered in her award presentation Monday night at the W.  Corrigan was named “Humanities Teacher of the Year” by the Mississippi Humanities Council. Corrigan says Shakespeare still influences the field of humanities, theater and film today and in her presentation,  discussed scenes from Henry V (the 5th), Love’s Labour’s Lost and King Lear.

“This is very much living literature. Works that people are still interpreting, performing, reimagining. Works that are enjoyed by people that are not necessarily scholars,” says Corrigan.

In addition to Shakespeare, Corrigan’s interests include gender and class in early modern drama and history plays.
