LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – It is considered equal to a high school diploma, the General Education Development test is more commonly called the GED.

Many Mississippians are working toward their GED, but there are changes ahead in 2014 for GED Testing.

The current version of the test is expiring at the end of this year.

Even if some people have taken GED subject Tests in the past and might even have gotten perfect scores, it all just could be for nought, if the new  guidelines for 2014 are ignored.

“Where we have now is paper and pencil, but the test is going to go to computerized. Which it won’t be any more paper and pencil,” said Darren Jordan, Director, Greater Columbus Learning Center.

“It will be an online version that will be administered only in a authorized Pearson Vue testing facility,” said Jim Bearden, Adult Education Director, EMCC.

East Mississippi Community College, neighborhood educators at the Columbus Learning Center, and where ever there is a designated Pearson Vue testing center, approaches to old GED testing methods will soon be a thing of the past.

“We encourage you to get in and study you know, and get yourself up to parr so you can pass the GED test. So that you can move on to the next level in life, whatever it may be for you,” said Jordan.

“You just can’t about get a job interview any more with, you can’t get past that one without having a GED,” said Bearden.

The current testing fee is $75, or $15 per section.

In 2014, the new testing fee for the GED will be $120 minimum.
