NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) — Festivals and museum events in New Albany may be able to sell beer and light wine by this fall.

Organizers will have to get a special permit, meet specific guidelines and get the approval of city council.

Supporters say it would attract more visitors and raise money for sponsoring groups and the city. But opponents say it would take away from the family-friendly atmosphere at many activities, and raise the potential for trouble.

Aldermen could vote on the proposal Aug. 5.
