Video: New AS-350 Helicopter Presented To MHP

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A high tech airbus helicopter is delivered to The Mississippi Department of Public Safety to help fulfill it’s law enforcement mission. Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant was on hand for the delivery ceremony Tuesday at the megasite on Airport Road.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant shared the room Tuesday with proud Airbus Helicopter workers at the Columbus plant. Helping to put out a product stamped….made in Mississippi, capable of performing many tasks.

“That fits the mission and needs of the Department of Public Safety in the state of Mississippi. We have 220 plus of these air crafts, they have 56% of the market share around the entire United States for law enforcement missions,” said Sam Adcock/GM Airbus Columbus.

“Perhaps an elderly person that has been, wondered off and we can’t find. So there will be so many used. And trying to find that violent offender that may have escaped,” said Phil Bryant/Mississippi Governor.

“Any time there is a disaster, we like to get up. We have the ability to live stream video of what the disaster area looks like,” said Captain Ron Kelley/DPS Aviator.

Now lets see, built by Mississippians, keeping Mississippians safe, while providing stable jobs. It appears that the company having taken flight, now is presenting troopers with a cost effective high tech state of the art air craft.

“By September we’ll be doing assembly, full assembly. And finishing here and so we’ll have additional jobs. We’ve assembled, partially assembled about 325 of the A Stars here. We hope to increase that,” said Governor Bryant.

Proud Airbus employees and Mississippi Department of Public Safety personnel receiving this state-of-the-art gift… are sure to have their heads above the clouds as their new air craft takes off and lands on Mississippi soil.

“Its a good opportunity and we are pleased to provide the Mississippi Department of Public Safety this air craft at this time, Sam Adcock.

The helicopter plant in Columbus employs a workforce of nearly 300 people, 50 percent of them are military veterans.
