WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- As construction crews hammered, cut and painted, builders and designers met with Webster County school leaders to discuss the final touches at East Webster High.

” We have put down floor tile now, the rooms are pretty much complete. You could feel now the air condition is on and that’s a really good thing. They’re just going in and doing last minute things,” said Webster County School Superintendent Jack Treloar.

An EF-3 tornado tore through the community in April of 2011, destroying the campus and several homes nearby. Since then, students attended classes at Wood Junior College in Mathiston. Architect Gary Bailey is confident the school will be ready next month.

“We’ve still got asphalt to lay and that’s our biggest concern. If it doesn’t rain we’re good. It’s a very tight schedule to try and get it done but we’re excited. We think it’s going to be on time and everybody is working hard to make that happen,” said Bailey

Developers are expected to turn the school over to the district August 1st. District leaders do have a contingency plan to continue school at Wood College if the completion date is delayed. Superintendent Jack Treloar says the recent months have been long, but he is happy to finally see everything come together.

“We have a beautiful school and we cannot wait to get back on this campus,” said Superintendent Treloar.

Officials will hold another meeting at the end of the month to go over final preparations.
