CRAWFORD, Miss. (WCBI)- Three different dreams come true for three new homeowners as each got keys to brand new homes in the town of Crawford. They received new homes from the Mississippi Development Authority Home Grant Program.

Marisa Wells says being a approved for the new home was something she hoped for.

“I’m proud, I thank God for it. It’s a blessing for me to have this home,” says Wells.

The two other homeowners, Arlehsa Malone and Emma Flower felt the same way.

“I love it. I love everything! From the outside to the inside, everything,” says Malone.

“I love my new home. I sure do,” says Flower.

Mayor Fred Tolon spent Monday afternoon driving around town, giving each of the three houses a blessing, before officially turning over the keys and touring all three homes.

“It’s a great day for Crawdord. It gives more hope that things can happen out in this area,” says Mayor Tolon.

Each new house is filled with brand new appliances. Malone says she’s lucky to have the home. She submitted her application on the last day and thought she would be overlooked, but is happy everything worked out.

“Sometimes people are not able. And so when stuff like this happens and they get awarded for it, it’s great! It’s nice,” says Malone.

Mayor Tolon says he wants to continue programs like this in the town of Crawford. It not only improves the lives of the homeowners but the quality of life for children for years to come.

“Wen you see kids, you know, it just brings tears to your eyes with the conditions that they live and you know there’s better for them.If you got better housing you got better living conditions for children. That connects to education. Quality of life in the end, we all win,” says Mayor Tolon.

And it’s a winning solution he wants to continue to see as he strives to make lives better for people in his town.

“Seems like we just need to act on the need more and make the world better. Because if we don’t try and make it better, then who will,” says Tolon.

The total grant cost over $300,000. Each homeowner was picked through a computer database, based on the families income and need.
