AMORY, Miss. (WCBI)- Down Old Highway 25, it may look like an empty space, but local developers plan on turning one lot of land into a new subdivision. Officials broke ground on the Edgefield Subdivision two weeks ago. Barry Strevel, founder of D & B Development says the residential area will attract people to town.

“We got it where we could build a zero lot line, gated community in Amory. And I think it’s going to be real nice. We’ve had a lot of contacts from people that are from here originally that live out of town that are interested in coming back to town. There were quite a few hurdles we had to jump and there was a time or 2 where we had to question if it was the right things to do,” said Strevel.

Strevel says there are many benefits to the zero lot line property. More homes can be built within a smaller area. From lower utility bills, to fewer dollars spent on maintenance, it’s a cost effective option for small families and senior citizens.

“Single-parents or the elderly that are eyeing a place with a little more security. It will be gated with a punch card entrance so there’s as much security as we can give them,” said Strevel.

He also believes property value in the town will jump.

“It ‘s built in the Amory School District and that’s a plus in our area,” said Strevel.

Strevel is grateful to the town of Amory for making this idea become a reality.

“This will be the first. The city worked with us real hard. We’ve got some ordinances changed. And I think it’s going to be real nice,” said Strevel.

Officials say they’ll begin placing water and sewer lines next week and if everything goes according to plan, they will begin on the first home within thirty days.
