TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — National Cancer Survivor’s Day was celebrated today at North Mississippi Medical Center’s Cancer Center.

There was food, prizes and a number of activities, but the annual observance is a way for those who’ve beaten cancer, or those undergoing treatment, to encourage others.

“We see people surviving everyday, much better than they did even ten years ago with better diagnosis, earlier diagnosis, and targeted therapies, people are not getting a death sentence anymore, more like a chronic disease, like diabetes,” Cindy Edwards with the NMMC Cancer Center said.

There are more than 14 million people still living in the United States who’ve been diagnosed with some type of cancer.
