LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-The Silicor Project that would have brought a $200 million dollar industry to Lowndes County is officially dead. Supervisors had asked Silicor Materials to put up or shut up. The company did not put up $150,000 dollars in escrow money to show good faith and seal a deal that would have meant 200 new jobs. The county and the LINK waited for Silicor to act before a December 31st deadline that has since come and gone. Both the LINK and the county had committed to upwards of $75 million dollars in grants and loans to help launch and stabilize what would have been a plant. Silicor would produce silicon parts that could be used in everything from car parts to make up.
