Video: North MS Law Enforcement Honor Fallen Officers

Tupelo,MS(WCBI)-It was an emotional Crimestoppers Awards luncheon in Tupelo, as the families of two law enforcement officers killed last month in the line of duty are honored, along with a patrolman who was shot and is recovering from his wounds.

Hundreds of local, state and national law enforcement officers were on hand for the Northeast Mississippi Crimestoppers Award luncheon. Along with the usual awards and honors, three new awards were added to the luncheon.
Tupelo Police Officer Joseph Maher received the Law Enforcement Purple Heart. Maher was shot December 23rd by a bank robber. Sergeant Gale Stauffer was killed in the same incident.

The families of slain Sergeant Stauffer and fallen Union county Sheriff’s Deputy Clinton Frazier received the Law Enforcement Cross.

“The outpouring of support is still so overwhelming, all I can say it’s that it’s an honor. I’ve become part of this brotherhood, sisterhood, it’s a family like none other and I’m just honored and so humbled to be here and anything that involves law enforcement , I want to be there.”>

Deputy Frazier was killed when his car wrecked while responding to a call. Other awards were announced, including Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award. That went to Lt Mike Mewlin of the Itawamba Co. Sheriff’s Office and Larry Brymer, a former police officer from Texas who is now general manager of Carlock Toyota received the Community Service Award.
