NOXAPATER, Miss. (WCBI) — One Winston County chicken farmer continues scratching back after the April 28th Tornado knocked down two breeder houses destroying thousands of her valuable birds.

Tremendous is the term being used by Poultry Farmer Brenda Goodin, when describing just how far she has come. In August of 2014 there were only mounds of dirt being moved around at the Noxapater business.

“We were at a meeting several days after the storm and this guy said you are going to be able to look back in a years time and see the amount of progress you have made. Well sitting there that day we could not even comprehend what he was talking about,” said Brenda Goodin/Noxapater Poultry Farmer.

With a total of some 22,000 chickens killed, there was determination to come back better than before. Goodin is still under contract with Tyson Foods and two new chicken breeder houses are just about completed.

“Inside work now can be done, you know even if its raining outside. So we can make progress everyday until this point we had to wait on the nice sunny days for them to be able to work. But now they’ve got a roof on and they are over there every day,” said Brenda Goodin.

With things coming together in no time at all, there will be eggs for consumers, Winston County gets some generated tax revenue, and this farmer gets the satisfaction of owning two new breeder houses.

“Oh yes, yes, we’ll be able to get birds in the houses and be up and going,” said Brenda Goodin.

The two new chicken breeder houses are expected to be up and producing by April.
