TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Supporters of the second amendment have descended on Tupelo’s Bancorpsouth Arena.

The Northeast Mississippi Chapter of the Friends of the National Rifle Association are holding their annual banquet and auction to raise money to promote firearm safety and education.

Gene Newman is the NRA’s field representative for our area.

“The friends is basically the fundraising arm of the NRA,” Newman said. “With events like this tonight we will fund some $31 million in grant money to various groups from Boy Scouts to 4H to church shooting programs, junior ROTC, police marksmanship, hunter education, on and on and on.”

Newman says this part of the country is strongly pro-NRA, and he says they make no bones about being for the second amendment.
