Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) – It was out with the old and in with the new for one of the area’s most historic churches.

Moving to a building half a mile down the road may not sound like much of a change. But for members of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Sundays have looked the same for over a century. This morning the congregation, along with their pastor of nearly 30 years, re-assembled in their newly constructed house of worship.

Since its founding in 1872, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church has seen great success. It’s long time members attribute love to over 140 years of church history.

Therman Cunningham, Pastor of Oak Grove, believes the building was divinely inspired. After only 10 months of construction, Cunningham’s dreams for his congregation came true.

“About 12 years ago this vision was given to me by God and we had some hills to climb and some valleys to go through but we made it. What I hope and pray is that they see Christ reflection in us. That’s my hope, that’s my prayer,” says Cunningham.

Oak Grove Missionary Baptist is greatly anticipating continued growth in their new location.
