TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Several North Mississippi counties are giving you a chance to get rid of those old prescriptions you never use.

The Tupelo police department manned a booth at the crosstown CVS Pharmacy as part of the National Take Back Drugs Day.

Residents got the chance to turn in expired, unused prescriptions.

Officers tell WCBI many of the drugs turned in came from the families of deceased persons who no longer needed them.

The event also helps keep drugs away from children, and from those people who want them illegally.

There were similar drop off points in Monroe and Calhoun Counties.
