STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Sustainable Living, it’s a new name for an old idea, and Wednesday some Oktibbeha County residents got to hear about it from a local expert.Allison Buehler  was the featured speaker at the Blue Ribbon Resources Lunch and Learn.
Buehler and her husband Mike run the Mississippi Modern Homestead Center in Oktibbeha County where they grow, raise, and produce much of their own food and electricity. They also teach others how they can live a more sustainable lifestyle by making changes, large and small, and by finding local suppliers for things they don’t produce on their themselves.

“Mississippians spend 75% of their food money out-of-state, and that is not sustainable. That does not make sense for our farmers; doesn’t make sense for our small business or for our health, so sustainable health is catching on…it is because it makes sense.”

The Blue Ribbon Resources, or B-R-2, program is sponsored by the Greater Starkville Development Partnership
