STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It was an eventful Friday at the Boys and Girls Club of Starkville, as kids of all ages gathered to make clay bones.

The spring break project called One Million Bones had kids playing with blocks of clay and molding it for the millions of bones pilled in Africa. The national nonprofit organization is dedicated to raising awareness about human crisis around the world including slavery and genocide. Artwork bones created throughout the country will be later displayed in the National Mall in Washington D.C. This summer.

“We’re raising awareness of the genocide over there in Africa, how many deaths 5.4 millions deaths since 1996, were basically trying to support what they’re doing over there in Africa,” said director Lucas Davenport.

Mississippi State University students and other Mississippi Universities will host more events like this one to reach their goal of 7 thousand bones created within the state. Each bone will generate one dollar towards organizations that work towards alleviating human crisis.
