OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — The area around Oxford’s Downtown Square is known as an entertainment hotspot. But police want to make sure that it doesn’t become a criminal hotspot as well. Beginning this weekend the Oxford Police Department will have a special unit assigned to patrol the square and surrounding neighborhoods.

City leaders are hopeful that the increased attention will deter personal and property crimes, and cut down on public disturbances and unsafe activities. State and Federal grant money will help cover the additional costs.
