COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Call it bathroom humor if you want. But, it’s really good, clean fun. Local artists take a brush to the outhouse, just in time for Market Street.

“It’s funny to do a mansion as a privy,” said local artist Alex Harrison.

But local artist Alex Harrison is all about the humor. He’s been painting for over 10 years and says this has to be the funniest work of art he’s done yet.

“If you’re going to use a porta potty, I guess you’re at a public event and maybe you’re feeling nervous and so you can use the humor to make it a less of a nerve racking experience,” added Harrison.

It’s the second year Main Street Columbus is holding the painted privies contest. Though it might not be Harrison’s ideal canvas. It’s your typical John on the inside and soon to be work of art of the outside.

The artist of the mansion inspired privy claims using his porta potty will make for a more pleasant experience.

“I’ve been inspired by the homes of the area. I go for walks around a lot and I see the antebellum homes and I really like what I see,” added Harrison.

Harrison has already put over 6 hours into his masterpiece and is putting his imagination to good use.

All painted privies will be on display at Market Street Festival. “The People’s Choice Painted Privy” artist will be awarded a $500 cash prize.
