Video: Pink At Winona Football Game

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) — Winona High School is going all pink for tonight’s football game. Its to benefit teachers in the school district who are cancer survivors.

Winona High School cheerleaders could be seen warming up before tonight’s big game. For the school district, its a chance to do something for three of their own. The school district is teaming up against cancer.

“Before the game, we have been selling this week pink balloons. And we will have a balloon release before the game as the Tigers run out,” said Betsy Tompkins/Winona School District

In the hallways of Winona High School, it was like looking into a sea of pink.

“The balloon release is important to me because my auntie died from breast cancer and it was very serious. And I think breast cancer is a serious thing,” said Tylenesha Bibbs/Winona High School.

“Its very important to me because me being a female and me having people in my family that have had cancer before,” said Lexie Flowers/Winona High School.

The three survivors from among their ranks have been successful in their fight against the disease and will be honored Friday night.

“Tina Heath, Judy Darsey, and Roshell Armstrong. And they have all fought breast cancer and are all survivors so we love them and we are doing this for them,” said Betsy Tompkins.

In addition to wearing pink, pink coated cup cakes are a reminder of the sweet gesture for three of their own.

Winona Elementary school students will be responsible for releasing 200 balloons at tonight’s game.
