JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)- Lawmakers pass a bill today allowing the State to hire private companies to collect overdue child support.

The Bill passed the House 59 to 57.

A similar measure passed in the Senate last week.

Both chambers would have to agree on the same bill before it’s sent to the Governor.

If the bill is signed by Governor Bryant, the Department of Human Services could hire vendors to collect overdue child support payments in different parts of the State.

Supporters of the bill say it improves efficiency while critics believe the State has bad experience privatizing child support collections and that the plan will only end in disaster.
