TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Utility companies throughout our area received special recognition for their work restoring power in the aftermath of last week’s tornadoes. Friday afternoon, Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley delivered resolutions commending the work crews with Tupelo Water and Light performed after the tornado hit the city.

Initially,  about one fourth of Tupelo was without power, then in the next 24 hours there were 170 line workers on the ground. They worked from sunrise to past sundown restoring power and replacing around 200 poles.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Tupelo Light and Water’s, Johnny Timmons. “Even the office staff they did a tremendous job and again all the men in the field, and the main thing is they were safe, that’s the good thing.”

Presley said, “It’s the first step to recovery after a tornado to get the lights back on, so these men and women at Tupelo Water and Light and all our utility crews worked in immediately after the storm so they didn’t run from the problem they ran to the problem.”

Presley also presented a commendation to Tombigbee Electric Company and Four County Power Association for their work .
