Jackson, Miss. (WCBI) – Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley’s attempt to pass a resolution on nuclear waste fails. The measure would urge a stop to payments into a federal nuclear waste fund, while rejecting plans to store or re-process nuclear waste in Mississippi. Commissioners Lynn Posey and Steve Renfroe want more time to study the issue.
The resolution suggests the state sue to recover 80 million dollars that ratepayers have paid toward a plan to build a repository in Nevada. Presley has been a staunch opponent of having nuclear waste in the state, once the idea was brought up last year by the Mississippi Energy Institute.
