COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Extended oversight from the city’s outside management company is starting to pay some dividends for Columbus taxpayers. The key will be sustaining the improvements over time. J-5 Broaddus hopes to turn control of the city’s public works department back over to director Casey Bush next month.

Since April, the project managers have been changing operations to include more detailed work orders and schedules, the use of GPS devices to track city vehicles, and on site monitoring of workers. The goal is to raise the $3.5 million department’s efficiency rating from 45% to closer to the 88% national average.

J-5 hopes to do another review in October to see if the changes remain effective.
