Tupelo, Miss. (WCBI) – Motorists traveling through Tupelo this weekend will want to avoid that city’s busiest intersection. This afternoon,  city officials updated the public on plans for weekend repairs on the BNSF railroad line at Crosstown , the city’s busiest intersection.Beginning saturday morning at 6, Crosstown will be closed through Monday while crews repair train tracks and the crossing at that intersection.

Although there are several events, such as Noleput, the Color Vibe Run and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus,  officials said this weekend was the best time for the railroad crews to do the needed repairs.

“We didn’t want to take a chance of , if they got delayed on other projects and they had issues in larger metropolitan areas, that would divert resources needed to fix this so rather than taking a chance on when they may be able to come back thought that we would just divert traffic this weekend and do the best we can”

Traffic will be rerouted for cars and trucks until crews finish the work, which is estimated to be sometime next Monday around lunch.
