STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -There was a full house at First Baptist Church in Starkville this evening as members of the community donated money for a good cause.

For every $10 donation, the Reclaimed Project will be one step closer to opening their first orphan child care center.

“Orphan care is a call of the gospel, the bible calls us to that straight out in James 1:27 and so the church is obligated to care for the widows and orphans. It’s something we believe very strongly and it’s a way to up lift the community through orphan care and missions and selflessness and a way to live out the gospel mission,” said Board Member Justin Oswalt.

The Reclaimed Project is a nonprofit organization established last fall in Starkville supporting adopting families and their children. They also help connect people to meet the orphans of children in Botswana Africa who will never be adopted.

“I think it’s great, people that don’t have a chance to live like Americans really or are be able to freely think and say things they want and I think it’s great for them to for over there help them live a normal life,” said community member Cooper Gordon.

The organization provides adoption grants to families that aren’t able to adopt on their own. A:; the money collected will go straight to orphan care and the ministry.

“I was just honored that I was asked to volunteer because it is a great project that they’re doing here and being able to see it first hand they put a lot of work into it and I definitely think it’s been successful,” added volunteer Claire Faccini.

Organizers say they hope to raise $50,000 for the cause.
