TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)-It’s been purchased. It’s been moved. It is the subject of several years of negotiation and controversy.

The Spain House in Tupelo is now being offered to the city’s Historic Preservation Society.

The Tupelo City Council divided the vote 4 -3 in support of the contract.

City attorney John Hill added a line to the contract requiring the preservation group to pay $5,000 dollars toward insurance costs just in case the city was named in a future lawsuit.

But, Doyce Deas, leader of the group taking ownership of the house called that a deal breaker.

In the end, the insurance provision was removed from the contract.

Council members approved the contract.

The house will undergo renovations and repairs at it’s South Church Street location.
