Video: Residents Already Buying Fireworks for New Year’s

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-The Christmas decorations may be back in storage but families are now getting ready for their New Year’s Eve celebrations.

What would New Years be like without a little boom?

Experts say each year Americans spend $940 million on fireworks to help them celebrate the new year.

“They come in and out all during the day but usually our busiest is like New Year’s Eve,” says Mindy Gosa.

There are over hundreds of different types of fireworks here that you can choose from for your celebration on New Year’s Eve. Whether it may be the old ones or some new ones.

“Rocket.

“A rocket. Why is it your favorite?”

Because it shoots high,” says Alyssa Roush.

While it may be a yearly tradition for some, others like Alexis Vohlman, a New York resident, will experience shooting off fireworks for the very first time.

“It’s really exciting. I want to get a rocket,” says Alexis Vohlman.

It’s that same excitement that makes Christina Roush and her family enjoy preparing for the new year.

“We usually just get together and try and get enough together so they can have a good show,” says Christina Roush.

As you prepare to start off the New Year with a bang, Mindy Gosa says it’s important to read all safety labels on your fireworks.

“Don’t let your children do them by themselves. Make sure everyone is back when you light them and please don’t hold them in your hand because they will blow up. Just be careful with them,” says Gosa.

The most popular fireworks among Americans are firecrackers and skyrockets.
