FULTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Some Fulton volunteers had a busy morning making sure some needy people can enjoy a Thanksgiving feast.

The Fulton food pantry was ready as vehicles formed a line stretching down Clifton street.

With assembly line efficiency, volunteers load specially prepared boxes depending upon the size and needs of a particular family.

Harvey Clements is director of the food pantry. He says there are strict guidelines that must be met.

“They have to fill out and they’re rated by the USDA standard for minimum wage,” he said. “And anybody at the poverty level or below receives a box depending on how big the family is. Some of them receive more than one. It just depends on how big the family is.”

The United Methodist Church of Fulton started the food pantry in 1998 and they have given away on average about 350,000 pounds of food away.

He expects that they gave away 40,000 pounds on Saturday alone.

On Monday, he says volunteers will start packing boxes for the next big event, Christmas. He says each box weighs about 70 pounds.
