TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)  Restaurants in downtown Tupelo are coming together for a yearly initiative to bring in customers and help a local charity.

The third annual Downtown Restaurant Week kicked off today in Tupelo. It is sponsored by the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association and participating restaurants will offer specials, such as discounted items and new menu items.

It is a way to bring more traffic to the area and help a local non profit raise money.

“Get new people in their store, really celebrate those who have been coming and it also gives a chance for the downtown businesses and our community to give back to some non profit organizations. Each time a customer eats in one of these ten participating restaurants, they can vote for a non profit to win $500 at the end of the week,” said Jessica Hollinger of Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association.

Non profits on the ballot are; Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo Lee Humane Society and the Wounded Warrior Project.
