HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — In just seven months, the Tanglefoot Trail already has hit several milestones and attracted hundreds of visitors. On Sunday, it marked another first.

The 44-mile Rails-to-Trails route from Houston to New Albany hosted its first marathon and half marathon.

The Altis Endurance runs started and ended in Houston and attracted 59 runners from as far away as Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota as well as runners from across the region.

Among them was Clifton Cartwright of Booneville who was completing his 407th marathon. He’s run at least two in every state.

Organizers say the Tanglefoot is perfect is a perfect setting with its gentle rises, paved surfaces and bridges, trestles and other scenery.

The trail will be part of the Clint Frazier 5K April 19 and the ICC Tanglefoot Ride May 3.
