CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-A series of grants will help better warn Clay County residents of approaching severe storms and then keep emergency responders operating if they strike. Supervsiors agreed Thursday to take bids on seven new weather warning sirens for rural areas of the county. Those sirens are being paid for mostly through a $141,000 dollar grant. Separate grants also will pay for most of a large generator to power the county courthouse and 9-1-1 operations during major power outages. A small generator for the sheriff’s department’s new mobile emergency command center will help coordinate rescue efforts among deputies, firefighters and other first responders. The systems all could be operating by this spring.
