STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — State Senator Chris McDaniel made a campaign stop in Starkville today.

He touched on a number of topics while meeting with the media, making his case against U.S. Senator Thad Chocran (R – Miss.)

McDaniel says he wants term limits for U.S. senators, and would support federal aid for natural disasters.

Responding to Cochran, McDaniel says the government has a responsibility to maintain highway funds.

However, education was a big topic. McDaniel says the U.S. Department of Education is unconstitutional. He would use the department’s budget to allow states to apply for money.

“Block grant might work with full flexibility for state implementation, with a focus on states that are suffering the most,” McDaniel said. “It would be that easy. We wouldn’t lose money — we may even gain money.”

McDaniel says he would find other areas of government to cut instead of military spending.

He faces Cochran in a June 24 runoff.
