VARDAMAN, Miss. (WCBI)– Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran makes a pit stop at the sweet potato capital of the world as a part of his state wide tour.

The Senator met face-to-face with Vardaman residents and sweet potato farmers to see how the small town is bringing economic growth for the state.

Calhoun County sweet potato farmers put in an estimated $80 million into the Mississippi economy each year with their harvest.

Senator Cochran says that’s exactly what’s keeping our state going.

“It’s really the strength and backbone of our state’s economy so I’m glad to have a seat on the Senate Agriculture Committee which puts me in touch with government in Washington so that I can help make sure our farmers are treated fairly by our national policies,” says Senator Thad Cochran.

The senator also made stops in Oxford and Corinth.
