STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Severe storms blew across Mississippi Saturday. Possible tornadoes hit the Southwest portion of the state, causing damage in Covington, Jasper, and Jefferson Davis counties. Storms continued across the state’s midsection, and rolled into the Golden Triangle late in the afternoon.

Sturgis and Starkville in Oktibbeha County received moderated damage with falling trees taking out power lines and damaging houses. Particularly hard hit was the Sherwood Forest neighborhood in Starkville. Power was out along the Highway 12 corridor in the city as well.

The storms continued to surge across the state line into West Alabama. Lamar County Emergency Management officials reported at least ten trees down and one power line down, and a roof blown off of a barn.
